happy hour specials in orange county

A few of my favorites near the airport -

McCormick & Schmick's has a $1.95 bar menu if you have a drink, but is good in the bar area only. Is located at Jamboree/Main.

Daily Grill has a $2 bar menu with great food including a chicken pot pie. Good in the bar and at some of the tables on the patio. Dupont/Jamboree

Wildfish has $5 wines and martinis along with half off select appetizers including the crabcake which is excellent. Bison/MacArthur, behind UCI.

Memphis Cafe has $4 food and good drinks for happy hour. Try the Zuni frybread. At Bristol near the Anti-mall (LAB).

Agoura Churrascaria has $4 filet mignon bites and other goodies in the bar, along with complimentary cheese puff bread and bananas. Main/MacArthur near the airport

Bistango has special priced appetizers (lamb chops, beef skewers, etc) but regular priced drinks for their Happy Hour specials. Von Karman/Michelson

One of the classier and fun happy hours is over at Park Ave in Stanton. Although a bit of a hike, I really like the cozy, Rat Pack like interior that brings back memories of a far away time, and they serve a mean sidecar martini. Beach/Katella.

red lion tavern in glendale/silverlake ca.

"Pub Grub in Glendale"
- Likes it - The title of this story is Pub Grub. It rhymes but does it match? I have been writing/thinking about this for a few weeks now; I have visited a few restaurants that I would put in the category of having pub grub. I have visited Lucky Baldwin’s, Yard House, Crown City Brewery, and Brits and have fond memories of the ‘Old’ John Bull on Fair Oaks. I finally put it all together after a visit to the Red Lion Tavern in Glendale. I was trying to compare apples to oranges and yes - Pub Grub to a Steak House. Unfair! The under lying bond at all of the pub grub places is an unpretentious good time. The comedy about my search for the ‘good food’ was that in all the times that I mentioned, the food was just okay and at a certain pub the common reply was, “yea but did you try the fish and chips?” Okay, No! I didn’t. Either fish and chips are incredibly easy to make or these restaurants all get their cod from the same purveyor. The star at all of the above restaurants is the wide selection of beer - dark, light, bottled, filtered or on tap. The Red Lion Tavern in Glendale opened in 1962 and up until 3 years ago was owned by the same owners. The restaurant is two levels with bars on each level. My party enjoyed potato pancakes, schnitzel, a sausage platter, Hungarian Goulash and Beef Rouladen. Go to their web site www.redliontavern.net for the complete menu. Prices range from $10 to $20. Portions are large , and very suitable for sharing. Ask for extra picklesReasons to go: Live music Thursday thru Sunday Night. Weather permitting, go to the upstairs patio and enjoy a cold beer with friends. Menu lends itself to sharing; Sausage Platter with Knackwurst, Bratwurst and Bockwurst. Atmosphere is very relaxed.Hours: Monday through Sunday 11 Am to 1 AM. Dinner starts at 5 PMReasons to stay away: Sorry I don’t smoke, but you can stay at the bottom floor bar to stay clear of the smokers

best happy hour bars in los angeles

Looking for some recreational drinking in LA but not willing to splurge on $15 cocktails? It’s not easy to find affordable booze in the city of the rich and famous. Luckily, standing in defense of your democratic right to have a drink, is Clubplanet. So have confidence in our determination to spare your buck and check out our guide to some of the best happy hours under the hills.

#10 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
The Woods
1533 N. La Brea Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90028

If we didn’t see it, we would never have believed that The Woods, with all its ultra-hip coolness, is located in a strip mall. One thing is sure—forget shopping and head to this swanky venue covered entirely in dark wood and artistically arranged stone tiles (the wall). The attention-grabbing light fixtures look like pieces of antlers glued together and the wall behind the bar is illuminated with closely lined up white Christmas lights, which simply have to bring to mind Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Enjoy the outstanding happy hour of $3 well drinks, beers and wines, and $4 martinis every day from 8pm to 10pm.

#9 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Barney’s Beanery
8447 Santa Monica Blvd.
West Hollywood, CA 90069

This laid-back, diner-like watering hole might look average, but it offers an assortment of 132 imported and domestic beers. Not bad for a place with a $2.75 special on domestic beers ($3 import beers) and $3 well drinks. Their happy hour, and one of the best in Los Angeles, lasts three hours, from 4pm to 7pm, so stop buy, and grab a beer while filling your belly with half-priced appetizers. Barney’s Beanery is also the spot for shooting some pool after work.

#8 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Cha Cha Lounge
2375 Glendale Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90004

This dimly-lighted den bathed in weak red beam of neon joins the idea of music, drinking and remaining anonymous in a great city. Featuring big-name DJs and serving $2.50 Bloody Marys every Sunday from 5pm to 9pm, this hip watering hole (previously Le Bar) attracts a significant crowd every night of the week. Who said Bloody Marys aren’t a breakfast drink? Cha Cha Lounge makes some of the best during their infamous happy hour.

#7 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
World Café
2820 Main St.
Santa Monica, CA 90405

Bathed in the breeze of the nearby ocean, World Café attracts crowds of tourists and locals with their welcoming patio that lets you enjoy the Californian sun while sipping the house wines and signature cocktails. The happy hour spoils you further with $5 Apple Martinis and $3 Kamikaze Shooters, plus a well-priced menu of bar snacks, Monday through Friday from 5:30p.m. to 7p.m.

#6 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Ciudad
445 S. Figueroa Street
Los Angeles, CA 90071

The bright, geometrically-organized, modernist interior of Ciudad offers a spacious restaurant divided into intimate (but not claustrophobic) booths, while the sleek bar with cubical-shaped black leather bar stools and cubical-shaped fixtures hanging above it serves special happy hour cocktails for $4.50, 4pm to 7pm Monday through Friday and 4pm to 9pm on Sundays, definitely ranking them on our list of best happy hours in Los Angeles.

#5 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
L’Scorpion
6679 Hollywood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028

This swanky lounge located on Hollywood Boulevard hides an element of mysticism, with the dim air of flickering candles, exposed brick walls, dark wood and iron decorative elements that look like taken out of a fantasy video game. It’s hard to believe that this upscale place offers half-priced drinks and food Monday thru Saturday from 6p.m. to 8p.m., for one of the best happy hours in Los Angeles.

#4 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Big Wangs
1562 N. Cahuenga Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028

Big Wangs came-up with a barn-inspired watering hole and dirt cheap-specials in the heart of LA, which is why it’s on our list of best happy hours in Los Angeles. Located in Cahuenga corridor in Hollywood, it is just the right spot for pre-clubbing booze-up. Linger in their red banqueted booths and sip $4 Build-your-own-Bloody-Marys (after 10PM) and $2 frozen margaritas on Tuesdays, or catch the Pizza-and-Beer combos on Mondays.

#3 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Wahoo Fish Taco
1562 N Cahuenga Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90048

Good ol’ Wahoo offers yummy grub that comes on large plates filled with rice, veggies, seafood and, of course, the signature fish tacos. Agreed, that’s not exactly the place for a romantic dinner or a drinking spree with college buds; but it might just do the trick if you’re looking for a recession-friendly hangout offering $1.25 beers every day, one of the best bets for a happy hour in Los Angeles.

#2 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
The Gaslite
2030 Wilshire Blvd.
Santa Monica, CA 90403

This dimly-lighted but spacious dive is not half as shady as it looks. With red leather banquettes and strip-club-like glittering red foil stripes covering one wall, it might not be a representation of good taste, but it gathers a great crowd, lured by the promise of $2 off all beverages until 9pm. You can also grab a $12 bucket of domestic beers.

#1 Best Happy Hour Bar in Los Angeles
Patrick Molloy’s
50 Pier Ave.
Hermosa Beach, CA 90254

There’s something disagreeable in spotting a leprechaun-decorated Irish pub on a sun-drenched street studded with palm trees, but, trust us, the tanned dudes have the same need for a good pint as anybody else. Patrick Molloy’s offers a laid-back atmosphere of an Irish-pub-meets-sports-bar, with a good grub menu and half-priced drinks during the happy hour. The combination of an Irish pub and one of the best happy hours in LA, puts them on our list.
